Fashion Student Organization Kent State University

By Allyson Kramer

Who would’ve thought something as simple as a swap in color could have a multi-million dollar impact on industries across the globe. Since 2000, Pantone, a company known for its premier color matching system, has selected a color of the year. Upon the announcement of the color, the fashion industry promptly incorporates it into its upcoming collections. However, unlike the 15 years prior, Pantone chose not one but two colors to define 2016. The first is a warm and embracing soft pink called “Rose Quartz.” The second is a tranquil light blue aptly named “Serenity.”

Though the colors are soft and serene, the move is a bold one for the color company. Instead of the color selection being simply a suggestion for the worlds of fashion and interior design, this year the company’s decision reflects a swift change in society. The colors describe a “gender blur” in terms of fashion. Instead of using one color to describe the “mood” of a year, Pantone selected the two pastels to match “a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.” Pantone’s colors of the year are cause for both celebration and a wardrobe expansion.

Can you believe that we're already halfway done with another busy school year? As spring semester is in full swing, we are so excited for all of the fun events FSO will be having. Keep on reading to see our full schedule.

Some event details:

*This event has been cancelled * On February 24 we will be co-hosting a special event with the Kent State chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America! There will be special speakers and this event will take place in Franklin Hall starting at 7:30 PM. This will be a great time to network with another organization and hear from some industry experts.

Carolyn from Ross Dress for Less will be back on February 25th for another special talk! She'll be bringing food and this will be held in Room 116 in Rockwell Hall starting at 6:00 PM.

Our fashion show for this semester will be on February 26th! The Goodwill Personal Styling Show is a spring semester tradition where students take up the challenge of styling an entirely thrifted look inspired by a theme. The theme choice will announced at the FSO meeting on February 8th!

FSO will be traveling to NYC this April from the 8th to the 10th. Spots have already been filled, but you can always plan on going on our annual trip next year! For those who are signed up, the second payment of the trip will be due on Monday, February 22, and the last payment will be due on March 7th.

We hope you'll be joining us for all that the Fashion Student Organization has to offer this spring semester!
